Development Workers & Returned Volunteers

Please consider the following…

1.      How has your time spent working in the Developing World affected you?

2.      Did you feel like you played a part in the global struggle against poverty?

3.      Would you like to continue this role into the future?

4.      Now that you’re home do you see this as the end of your Volunteer Work or the beginning of a new aspect of your life?

5.      What can you do to help people in the Developing World now that you are home?

6.      How can TVP facilitate a desire to continue working in International Development?

There are a number of ways that you can help us achieve our goal of an equal and fair world.

1.      Recruitment

a.      Join TVP on volunteer recruitment events in your school/college/area/place of work.

b.      Set up a club in your school/college/area/place of work that recruits volunteers for overseas Development work. Funding may be made available from governing body/student union/local authority/employer/union.

c.       Share your stories with family and friends about your experience.

2.      Fundraising

a.      Hold fundraisers for a particular Project, cause or initiative that means a lot to you. It may have been a Project you worked on while in-country or a particular area of Development that interests you. Perhaps you identified an initiative while in-country that will benefit the host community. TVP will help in any way we can.

b.      Work with TVP on fundraisers from bag-packing to raffles and more.

3.      Donate

a.      Regular donations by Direct Debit are the main income for many charities. Donations can be made weekly, monthly or yearly and can be for any amount. We gladly accept monthly donations of €3 and will update you on how your money is spent with a monthly newsletter.

b.      Once-Off donations have led to some of our best work including:

                                                              i.      The Chicken Coup                   (€2000)

                                                            ii.      The Music School                    (€2000)

iii.      The KCOS Kitchen Project       (€800)

The donors were all previous volunteers who had worked on the recipient Projects while in-country. We will keep you updated on the progress of the work and include your name on a plaque erected at the Project upon completion.

c.       Resource donations are hugely beneficial to both TVP and/or the host Projects that we work with. These can include anything from old computers to school books, office supplies, clothing, sports equipment, musical instruments, board games, children’s toys, medical equipment, bed linen, first aid kits, toiletries, buttons/zips and much more.

d.      In-kind donations are excellent ways to help and can be advantageous to the host community, TVP and the donor who benefits from tax breaks! Regardless of your industry there are many ways to donate…we can accept old stock from retailers, free consultancy or advertising space from professional services and so much more. Email us if you think your organisation would like to become a donor.

4.      Sponsorship

a.      Similar to regular donations yearly sponsorship can be by an individual, school, community group or organisation. The amount to sponsor is up to you and this can be used for specific purpose or the general costs incurred in running an international NGO. You will be listed as a sponsor on our website.

b.      You can also choose to sponsor a particular Project. This may be a Project that has particular relevance to you or your organisation. For example, if you are in the music industry you may like to contribute towards the salary of the music teacher in The Moshi Music School. Or perhaps you are in farming or food and would like to purchase the feed for the chickens in The Msamaria Chicken Coup.

5.      Work with TVP

a.      Attend Training Events and share your experience with new volunteers.

b.      Monitor Facebook pages for us and reply to new posts/contribute to discussions etc.

c.       Apply for internships/positions within the organisation.

So just because your Volunteer Placement has ended this doesn’t mean that your involvement in International Development has to end too.

If you are interested by anything above feel free to contact us.

Perhaps you have another way to help our charity, the Projects we work with and the Development effort in general…if so please let us know and we can work together to fight global poverty and human rights abuses.
